We’re Back! The Birth Center of Chicago Is Reopening in North Center This December
Big news, friends: the Birth Center of Chicago is reopening! After a few months of regrouping, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be back in action this December in our North Center neighborhood home.
Here’s what that means:
Prenatal care will start up again in December 2025
We’ll begin welcoming birthing clients with due dates of March 1, 2026, and beyond
If you’ve been following along, you know that earlier this year, in June, we made the difficult decision to go on a temporary medical divert. Our staffing levels had dropped below what we consider safe and sustainable, and we take safety seriously. The pause gave us time to step back, focus on rebuilding, and make sure we could reopen with the high-quality care our clients expect and deserve.
“We’ve been working hard to attract and interview quality candidates who understand what we’re trying to offer this community,” says Ariel Swift, Director of Outreach and Education. “When a business like ours experiences a disruption in care, we know that rebuilding trust is a vital part of reopening.”
And now, the team is ready to welcome you back with a mix of familiar faces and a few new ones.
Meet the Midwives You’ll See at BCC
Returning to the Birth Center are:
Juanita Ahuehuetzin Montoya, CPM, LM, LMT
Megan Trinter, LM, CPM
Melissa Peterson, CNM
Joining the team for the first time is Elisabeth Larson, DNP, CNM, who brings fresh energy and experience to our crew.
As always, our staffing is guided by Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC) recommendations, which suggest about 7–9 due dates per midwife each month. We’re proud to have held CABC accreditation since opening our doors back in 2021, and that commitment to safety and quality remains at the heart of everything we do.
A Shoutout to Our Friends at Burr Ridge Birth Center
During our temporary closure, clients were given the option to continue their care at the Burr Ridge Birth Center (BRBC). We’re so grateful to that team for their partnership and support. Roughly half of our clients made the transition to BRBC during that time, and we’re excited to welcome many of them back home to BCC soon.
Ready to Connect?
Our team has already started reaching out to families by phone and email to share reopening details and help clients resume or begin care.
If you’re curious about what it’s like to pursue an unmedicated birth in a supportive, home-like setting, we’d love to show you around.
Schedule a tour and come see what the Birth Center of Chicago is all about.
We can’t wait to welcome you back.
