Megan Trinter is a Licensed Certified Professional Midwife (LCPM) who has attended over 1000 births in the Chicagoland area since 2003. Her decades of experience have given her a deep respect for the clinical aspects of being a Midwife while never forgetting that much of what makes this life transition exciting and overwhelming cannot be quantified. She brings her trust, patience, knowledge, skill and sense of humor into every space.
Megan holds a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies. Although originally drawn to supporting people who were experiencing challenges with their young families, it was at Penn State that Megan was introduced to the field of Midwifery and all her life plans changed. She became a certified doula during college and began working – attending births, providing postpartum support and teaching childbirth classes – immediately after graduation. After a few years of providing doula care (and the home-births of her first two children) Megan returned to school to study midwifery.
Megan is a 2010 graduate of National College of Midwifery with a degree in Direct-Entry Midwifery and is certified by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). Megan has worked for a Chicago homebirth practice for the last 15 years where she learned how to provide true individualized care for every birthing person. Each birth gave her the opportunity to weave evidence-based care with individual autonomy, empowering families to be active participants while keeping birth safe for all involved. In addition to attending births at home, Megan never stopped supporting families in a non-clinical role as a doula, ushering new and experienced parents through the joys and challenges of growing their families. In 2023 Megan joined The Birth Center of Chicago (BCC) as a birth assistant, finding an exciting new space where people were getting incredible midwifery care. Additionally, Megan is a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC).
When she’s not working, Megan is often at home with her husband, some combination of her 4 kids, and her pets (A most beloved dog and a cat who is…you know, okay). She enjoys cooking new recipes, talking with friends while she walks the streets of her Chicago neighborhood (that feels more like a small town) and watching her kids at dance recitals, basketball games and soccer - lots and lots of soccer! WIth two kids no longer at home, gone are the days of loading the whole family into a van and heading out to explore National Parks for weeks on end, but Megan still finds time to connect with old friends and family in Ohio, Central Pennsylvania and the Northwoods of Wisconsin. After a child-rearing induced hiatus on crafting, her oldest daughter is ushering her back in with crafts like needlepoint and watercolor. It’s hard to focus on those things while watching and laughing at British comedy panel shows on youtube, but she’s trying.
Clients describe Megan as calming, empowering, patient, kind and direct. Her work with clients prenatally, during birth and postpartum is often described as invaluable and many appreciate her ability to be reverent while also, just sometimes, making them laugh.
Megan would like clients to know that there’s a lot of hard work that goes into this time-honored transition, but the work they do together will begin to prepare them for the lifetime that comes after. She’s excited to be a part of their journey.
