Juanita Ahuehuetzin is a Partera Mexicana and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) with over a decade of experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Her approach blends ancestral traditions, clinical midwifery, and deep cultural reverence—offering grounded, heart-centered care rooted in equity, reproductive justice, and community wisdom.
Originally from Mexico, Juanita migrated to Evanston as a child. Chicago called to her with its vibrant communities and the opportunity to serve families with care that honors their traditions and choices. Her journey into birthwork began in her teens, translating for family and friends during prenatal visits and births. The birth of her first son deepened her calling and led her to officially become a doula—driven by the noticeable lack of Spanish-speaking birthworkers. From there, her work evolved organically: adding massage therapy, healing modalities, and eventually returning to school to pursue midwifery.
Juanita is a 2024 graduate of Southwest Wisconsin Technical College with a degree in Direct Entry Midwifery and is certified by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). She has supported families across Illinois, Wisconsin, and the Texas borderlands, weaving together evidence-based skills with wisdom passed down through generations. In her current role, she serves as Director of Midwifery at the Birth Center of Chicago, where she is passionate about building a strong, collaborative midwifery team offering safe, community-rooted care outside of hospital systems.
In addition to midwifery, Juanita is a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator, Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner, craniosacral therapist, and Yoni Steam Facilitator. She holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology and offers extensive knowledge in breech balancing, childbirth education, and community-centered care. A devoted keeper of cuarentena traditions, she provides postpartum care rooted in ritual, nourishment, and holistic healing.
Clients describe Juanita as caring, grounded, passionate, and deeply committed. Her practice centers the emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being of each client—fostering autonomy, shared decision-making, and trust in the body’s wisdom. She is especially passionate about developing bilingual doula and midwifery trainings that bridge traditional care and evidence-based practice.
When she’s not attending births or offering healing work, Juanita can be found spending time with her four children, tending to her garden and many houseplants, making art, hiking (especially off trail), and reading—often with too many books by her bedside. She finds joy in quiet time in nature, long night walks, and meaningful conversations with her plants.
Juanita wants clients to know that she is deeply committed to honoring their traditions, stories, and choices in every step of their birth journey.
